The Talmud is not Satanic
The spirit of antisemitism is revived among the New Christian Right. One of the leading advocates of Jewish hate is pastor Joel Webbon. Joel said on his podcast, Judaism is a parasitic religion and therefore Jews should not be allowed to serve in public office in my nation. These same people teach that the Talmud is satanic, and it says Gentiles are dogs. All of this is false. First, we need to ask the question, what is the Talmud?
The Talmud is a central text in Jewish tradition, consisting of rabbinic discussions on law, ethics, customs, and theology. It is not satanic, but rather a compilation of wisdom that has guided Jewish communities for centuries.
1. Sacred Jewish Text - The Talmud is a commentary on the Torah, expanding on biblical teachings and guiding Jewish life.
2. Moral and Ethical Teachings - It contains discussions on justice, kindness, charity, and righteousness, emphasizing ethical living.
Does the Talmud call gentiles dogs? The Talmud does not refer to gentiles as dogs. This is a common misconception often stemming from misinterpretations or deliberate distortions of Talmudic texts. The Talmud contains a wide range of discussions and debates, and while some passages reflect the historical and cultural context of the time, they are not meant to insult or demean non-Jews.
In fact, many Talmudic teachings emphasize universal ethics and the shared humanity of all people. For example, the Talmud states in Sanhedrin 37a that saving a single life is like saving an entire world, a principle applied to all human beings, not just Jews.
The Talmud speaks positively about Gentiles who live righteously, recognizing their ability to live ethically and receive divine reward. Righteous Gentiles have a place in the World to Come (Olam Habah). The Talmud states that non-Jews who follow moral principles and live righteously are granted a share in the World to Come.
Rabbi Meir taught that even a Gentile who engages in Torah study is considered like a high priest, emphasizing the value of wisdom and ethical learning.
The Talmud is not satanic.
